Update September 2021
After originally signing up to do the London Marathon in 2020 it looks like it will finally happen now, so I'm off for a run on Sunday.
Since originally signing up my Dad has sadly passed away due to prostate cancer as have many other people - Please, if you can, make a donation and help beat this horrible illness.
I do have a slightly dicky knee this time, but still hope to come in under 4 hours having done an awful lot of training again.
Original Message from 2020:
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've been running for my own benefit for nearly 5 years now, after previously enjoying a lengthy period of inactivity and excessive wine intake. My first run was 0.8 miles long with multiple stops and much huffing and a puffing, but I stuck at it and eventually started to enjoy it.
Up until entering the ballot for the London Marathon I had not entered any official races but thought I needed to get at least one marathon under my belt before my body objects too much.
Well now I've gone and got myself in it makes sense to try and raise a few quid for a worthy charity - Prostate cancer is affecting my family now and will likely affect people you care for at some point, so please throw in a few bob to help fight it, for the benefit of all.
I'll kick things off and then will carry on with the training - With a strong tailwind I'm hoping to come in just under 4 hours, body willing.
*If the coronavirus leads to a cancellation of the London Marathon, I will be doing my own 26.2 mile run, so hopefully you will still be happy with your continued sponsorship in the knowledge that I will be making the same effort on the day. Done :-)
Thank you
Gary
