Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
So this is the challenge: Richmond to Brighton in 24hrs - starting mid-day Saturday 9th June and hoping to finish sometime just before mid-day the next day. Around 30-40 people finished the 100K (62+ miles) inside 24hrs last year out of the 230 starters and most of these were walking in organised teams... I figured I'd give it a stab on my own! (Which could be interesting with checkpoints to pass through with the aid of a map and compass - and in the dark!)
I've been training for about 5 months now and have completed several practice walks - a fast one of 17km, another of 28km, back to back 30km and 20km over two days and a recent one of 52km... leaving me no illusion of how hard this challenge will be. At the moment I am training 6 days a week with a mixture of running, walking, boxercise and body pump classes to get my fitness where it needs to be - which includes either a long walk or long run on the weekend. Over the next month I hope to complete a few long walks including another 50km day trip as part of the training.
But it's not just the personal challenge. Looking through Blind Veterans website it's clear they do amazing work and rely on fund raising to do it. So dig deep... give cash! Some of the money raised will also be matched by my work which is great, and everything donated will go to the charity, entry fee and ALL equipment of course has and will be coming out of my own pocket.
Now for the boring bit...: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
