Story
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year, at the age of 57 my Dad was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer, the liver the most advanced. To say I was devastated was an understatement. The doctors decided to put him on the highest dose of chemotherapy possible over a 12 week period in an attempt to reduce the tumours either side of the colon and the liver. Within 4 days of receiving his first dose of chemo, one of the tumours burst and began to release a poison through his body, they gave him 48 hours to live if nothing was done. His only option was to receive emergency surgery and they gave him an 18% survival rate. Not wanting to give up he opted for the surgery and I am so happy to say that he survived this. The doctors removed his colon and the tumour surrounding it and he is currently in the recovery phase.
The fight however is not over, at the end of this month he will be meeting with his team of doctors to discuss whether they can recommence chemotherapy to attempt to shrink the tumour by the liver. If they can, he will then undergo another operation to remove the tumour and the parts of the liver that are infected. They will never be able to cure my dad but they are doing all they can to prolong his life so he can be with us as long as possible.
Liver diseases are the 5th largest killer in the UK and I have chosen to raise money for the British Liver Trust who work hard to raise money for funding into the causes and treatments of all kinds of liver disease and to improve awareness of the risks and causes.
On 31st August 2014 I will be participating in the SAFRA 21k half marathon out here in Singapore so please please please dig deep and support me in raising money for such an important cause!!
Thank you!
Gabs xx
