Story
Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.
In 1768, the island was claimed by the French in search of treasure, and this year, on the 4 October 2013, we hope that you will find it! “Dig for Digby’s Dubloons” is a day of challenges and quests around the island, with the ultimate goal of unearthing Digby’s hidden treasure. This is GVI’s first event in support of the SSPCA and their commendable cause, and we hope this will be the first of many under the newly-founded partnership between us at GVI and the SSPCA.
The Seychelles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) aims to provide care and treatment to the population of stray, neglected, mistreated and abused animals in the Seychelles. It is currently the only organisation in place to deal with the Seychelles’ stray animal problem that poses a significant traffic hazard and has a negative impact on the image of the Seychelles as a tourist destination, an industry that represents 80% of its annual GDP. By tackling these issues head on and through preventative measures the SSPCA aims to make a lasting difference to the image of the Seychelles as a tourist destination.
The SSPCA is aiming to raise funds for medical treatment, as well as to provide a centre where stray and neglected domestic animals can be treated, cared for and ultimately rehomed. This will be the first animal welfare centre of its kind in the Seychelles, and with your support these objectives can be realised. The SSPCA also focuses on education and preventative measures, teaching the local community how to care for these animals and the reasons behind such care. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
