Story

As most of those reading this page will already know, Peter Ndelwa is an inspirational pastor who devotes his life and his formidable energy to helping needy children and others at his school and orphanage near Arusha in Tanzania. His organisation, Gohechi, is short for “God Help the Children”. Those of you who have met Peter will have sensed for yourself his deep commitment to improving the lives of others, and those of you who have visited Gohechi will have seen that it is a place of love and laughter despite being in the midst of so deprivation.

Peter’s long-held ambition was to acquire land on which to grow crops to help make Gohechi self-sufficient in food, increase its resilience and self-reliance, and enable others to learn principles of sustainable agriculture. With the generous assistance of supporters in 2018 Peter was able to move much closer to his goal, and now has planted many acres with crops, as the pictures show. This has been an enormous help to him and his community, and should be again this year when the crops are ready, rains permitting, in August. So this is mostly a Good News story.

Unfortunately Covid-19 has hit the community hard, with many restrictions on work and travelling, and a reduction in the already tiny revenue which Gohechi has. Finding sufficient food and basic essentials for the children over the next few months is likely to be especially challenging. Any support, however small, will be much appreciated, and even a little goes a very long way. African Children’s Fund has had links with Peter for many years, and all funds raised by us will go directly to Gohechi.
