Story
I am raising money for the charity Bowel Cancer UK through the Step Up for 30 event. Bowel cancer has had a great impact on my family’s life over the past 10 years. Two members of my family having been unfortunate enough to have suffered from it. My Grandma Rita has had it twice over a period of 7 years and as her symptoms were detected early, has been incredibly lucky to have made a full recovery in both instances. Symptoms of bowel cancer can vary between each individual, so it is important to be aware of any changes in your body and visit your doctor if you notice anything which concerns you.
Sadly, in 2019, we lost my Great Uncle Graham to Bowel cancer. Unfortunately his symptoms were not recognised and acted upon early enough. This is why the work Bowel Cancer UK does is so important, to provide a greater awareness and understanding of the disease, its symptoms and how it can be treated.
My grandma Rita had two thirds of her liver removed as a result of the disease but still managed to make a full recovery due to scientific advancements aided by the donations made to this charity. This proves how vital ongoing research is, so improvements can be made in disease identification, treatment and recovery. The work of Bowel Cancer UK saves lives, and improves the quality of life of people affected by this disease.
The Step Up for 30 event for Bowel Cancer UK is to raise awareness and funds to support this charity. I will be doing 30 mins of exercise for each day of June.
