Story
Children's Cancer North is dedicated to making life better for children with cancer across the North East and Cumbria. Around 100 children from across the region are newly diagnosed with cancer every year and come to the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle for their treatment. Children's Cancer North aims to improve their quality of life through transforming the environment and play experience on the wards, providing access to potentially life saving clinical trials and funding revolutionary research to find more effective treatments.
Our little boy was born in January 2022. He was a tiny 4lb and has had issues with his bloods since he was born, We were transferred to the RVI from Durham hospital to have further tests.. The tests have shown Jakob has bone marrow failure and is likely going to require a bone marrow transplant which is heartbreaking news for any parent to hear. Although this is not cancer It is a very serious disorder of the blood and a lot of the treatment and support is the same as that for cancer. We are not yet at the stage of diagnosis as to why his bone marrow is not working, whilst other tests continue and Jakob is kept safe and well he continues to be cared for at the RVI. Without children cancer north the support and research into blood disorders (and of course cancer) would not be possible. The support the provide families in and out of hospital is amazing work. Any money we can raise will support this charity to continue and develop the work they already go here, close to our homes and families.
Each year my uncle and others arrange a vintage tractor run in County Durham. This year I was asked if I would chose a charity that they could do this for help to raise money for those that are supporting and caring for Jakob and our family. This will take place later in the year to give us plenty of time to raise as much as possible before the event 💰
