Story
26/06/11 Freddie did it! In fact, the ride measured 16.5 miles according to the organisers. Freddie finished in 2.5 hours, including two 10 minute stops. Freddie was very proud to be the youngest rider taking part. The organisers took a picture of him to go on their website and asked us to keep them posted about his fantastic fundraising for Barnardo's - they were delighted to hear about it.
A huge thank you for all the support and sponsorship, it was a great motivation all the way through the ride to think about being able to do a little through Barnardo's to put a smile on the faces of children in difficult home situations. We talked about it several times.
24/06/11 Wow, thank you so much everyone! We have smashed our original target, that's amazing. I know that Barnardo's will appreciate everything we all give them.
23/06/11 Freddie says: I'm six years old. I really want to cycle 15 miles so I'm doing the Wokingham Bikeathon with my mum. I've been training hard, both on the journey to school and on some special longer training rides on- and offroad. My furthest distance so far is 11 miles along the Jubilee River. Last weekend I cycled 7 miles in an hour so I am getting fitter and faster too.
I'm very interested in building and designing houses at the moment. We bought a copy of The Big Issue today and my mum and I were talking about people with NO house of their own and how sad that is for them. I would like to design and build houses for people with no house when I'm grown up. I have been practising with some designs on the computer and with lego! That's why I decided to try to raise some money for Barnardo's. We looked at their website and they use the money people raise to help homeless children.
I hope it will help me keep going on the long ride, thinking about the money we can give to children who don't have anywhere to live.
