Story
Our son Adam Parry died tragically and suddenly on 6th May 2021 aged 32. Adam had struggled with alcohol addiction for a number of years.
His death, like many others suffering from addiction, may have been avoided if he had been offered the treatment he really needed. While many alcoholics/addicts do recover in the community, there are many, many more who do not and offering Rehab as a real alternative could well be the difference between them dying or recovering.
Rehab is not a magic bullet but it should be a treatment that is offered, just as we offer alternative treatments for many other serious illnesses, such as cancer. People do not choose to have cancer and addicts don’t choose to be addicted.
There continues to be a stigma attached to addiction in Scotland and it does not help the families who are often caring for the alcoholic/addict. They often have to pick up the pieces in the chaos of that addicts life. They have to suffer the pain and rollercoaster existence when living with a sufferer. This is where organisations such as Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs work tirelessly to help. They help families to navigate their way through the agonies of watching a loved one being destroyed by this illness, as well as the untold damage to others around them. Please donate generously, if you can. You will help suffering families throughout Scotland.
