My whole life my grandma has been my best friend and she would always look after me like doing the school run when my parents was working.
One winter we had a bad lot of snow, causing my grandma to fall and she hit her head and because she was not in pain or there appeared to be no injury, no medical attention was taken. Then over time, we began to notice changes. She always had been a little forgetful but simple things were becoming hard for her and we began to suspect the worse.
After a family meeting, we decided that my grandma needed to go the doctors and they referred her. After tests, our worst fears were confirmed. She had dementia and the fall she had in the snow had caused it. It had caused her to have a blood clot on the brain and was causing her to have mini strokes. The doctors believe she would of always ended up with dementia but the fall had caused it to come early due to the pressure on the brain.
There is no cure and we have to watch painfully as our mother, grandmother and sister slip away.
I want to do this walk for her as well as bringing awareness to the issues as I believe families that don`t suffer from it, are unaware of the illness. Its not a case of just losing your memory. No family should have to go through this. Any amount you can give would deeply mean alot. Thank you.
