The JBT was set up by James's family simply because he was a son, a brother, a cousin, a nephew, and a grandson to a much saddened and helpless family who could so little to rid james of a devastating cancer which ultimatley killed him. But we can do something in his name that could help other young adult sufferers and make us feel that at least James's death was not without meaning.

James William Baldwin was 24 years old when he was diagnosed with Tcell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma a cancer that tends to strike young adults - he was 26 years old when he died on the 6th of May 2004.

James had to undergo a complex treatment programme that included intence chemotherapy to try to eradicate the cancer. Recieving Chemotherapy as an impatient was demorralising for James he hated having to stay in hospital. St Bartholomews Hospital would only agree to him being an outpatient if he would stay in close enough range to reach the hospital in an emergency. Fortunatley arrangements were made where he lived with our Brother who lived close to the hospital. This meant James could be treated as an outpatient which mesant he could spend more time with his family and friends. This had a significant positive effect on his well being and general outlook. It also gave him a measure of control over his life and to a person suffering from Cancer being able to maintain that measure of control can be very important. In speaking with James's fellow patients it was clear that they felt the same way.

Unfortunatley for many sufferers of T Cell treatments as an out patient is not possible as they live too far from the hospital and are required to stay in hospital for long periods of time. James's family and friends decided to do something to help people like James.

We knew that Chemotherapy treatment as an outpatient was much better for the well being of many T Cell NHL sufferers and improved their quality of life. it also Freed up a hospital bed. This led to setting up this trust to provide accomodation for friends and family also of the patient local to the hospital providing treatment for young adults like James who were undergoing treatment but not so fortunate to have accomodation close by to the hospital. In addition to this donations would be made to organisations researching a cure for T Cell NHL.

In time the trust aims to extend the help it gives to emotional support and information to other sufferers and their families.

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite was delighted to take the oppurtunity to be the patron of the Trust in which she has strong personal interest as she is James's cousin.
