Hi All,
I like to think I was a very close friend of Steve and his family, since hearing the very sad, devastating news that Steve lost his fight against cancer on Sunday I have not been able to post or put into words how I am feeling at this moment as I am sure you all are too.
Neal Simmons and I first decided to setup this page for Steve when he was first diagnosed and was in hospital, to help him be in contact with everyone and update us on his condition. Since then we have been totally amazed and blown away by the amount of people and friends both socially and through his political career that were in Steve’s network and cared so deeply for him.
Over the past few days I have been reading all the kind words and sympathy that all of Steve’s friends and colleagues have posted on this page, but still I have been unable to find my words to express what Steve meant to me and my family, then it came to me that an action may be better than words. I have decided that I am going to attempt to run this year’s St Neots 10k run on Sunday 7th August in Steve’s memory and for Cancer Research which I think Steve would have appreciated.
Although this is no real mean featthere are a couple of issues with this decision I have made.
1, I am not a sporty or fit person (I can barely run a bath!)
2, As people who know me know, I have been suffering with very bad back problems over the past 4yrs, which I have recently found out after an MRI scan that has been caused by a fractured vertebrae in my spine. (My physiotherapist is going to go nuts when I tell him I'm doing this)
I will start my training for this event very soon (as I need it), and any encouragement and support will be greatly appreciated, but more importantly any donations that you could make either personally, through other friends that may have known Steve or even better any corporate contacts who may have benefited or appreciated all of the work Steve put into St Neots as a councillor would be fantastic.
I feel this will be a great way of trying to make a positive impact on this awful disease, which has so cruelly taken such a dear friend from us all.
If you would like donate or sponsor me for this event I have setup a page on Just Giving in Steve’s memory.
