Story
LONDON to PARIS
In August Ian and I have decided to Cycle from London to Paris… for 2 main reasons. One – as a massive personal challenge, and 2 to raise a whopping £2K for a Wonderful Charity very close to my heart.
Training is well and truly underway and the Ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe is booked. We have new Road Bikes, and will be taking all our kit with us on panniers. We will also have to rely on our own mechanical skills to fix any punctures, as we are not doing it as part of an organised group!
Following my long drawn out hip operations, this coming August I am celebrating
a year of no crutches - woohoo!!! Also this September my father, had he
survived his illness, would have been celebrating his 60th birthday and ever a
glutton for punishment, I feel the time is right for me to both celebrate and
recognise these personal landmarks.
I have chosen to take part in the London to Paris bike ride and as a 'birthday
gift' to Dad I very much hope to raise funds through sponsorship
which will be donated to the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust in Dorset. This is an
amazing organisation comprising of a day centre in Weymouth, two
specialised nurses in Dorset County Hospital, community specialist nurses and
the eighteen bedded Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.
It costs £15,000 a day to fund of which only £5,000 is provided by the
government, the remaining £10,000 per day is dependent on donations.
As most of you will know, my father Paul was a patient at the
Joseph Weld in 2006 where the care and support he and my family received was
incredible. It was because of the facilities put in place by the Hospice that
he was able to come home at the end of his life, something he was determined to
do.
Like all gifts it really does not matter what the cost is but the kindness of giving is what means so much to us, so if you do feel able to sponsor me, be rest assured that for every pound donated I will pedal hard. Thank you.
