Five Islands Challenge

Linn van der Zanden is raising money for Surfers Against Sewage

Five Islands Challenge · 8 June 2022

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is a charity set up in 1990 by people sick of seeing the ocean they love polluted. We campaign to protect the ocean and all it makes possible, by taking action on the ground that triggers change from the top. We're calling for an end to sewage and plastic pollution.

Story

FIVE ISLANDS. FIVE BEACH CLEANS. 100KM OF OPEN OCEAN.

The Ocean produces over half the oxygen we breathe and absorbs nearly 30 percent of carbon dioxide produced by humans. It is simply our life support system. We need a healthy Ocean for our future on this planet 🐬 🌍

As a Rep for Surfers Against Sewage in my local area I know how hard this organisation works on fighting plastic pollution, water quality, ocean and climate, and ocean recovery. 💙

To raise funds I’ll be paddleboarding to 5 islands on the Firth of Clyde on the South West Coast of Scotland - a range of open sea crossings to nature reserves, uninhabited islands and the first No Take Zone in Scotland on Isle of Arran. I’ll be beach cleaning during the day and sleeping under the stars by night, packing everything I need on my board. This will be a way of accessing more remote beaches harder to reach from the road. It will be the longest and most challenging paddle I’ve done to date, so I share this with both nerves and excitement!

I would be so grateful for anyone able to support this cause in any small way possible and will be fundraising throughout the summer (and obsessively watching the weather for a window 😂🌊)

Thank you so much for reading!

Love, Linn
