Breast Cancer Care Womens Only Triathlon · 2 July 2011
I promised myself in my 40th year on this planet, that I would do my first Triathlon, and all I can add to that statement is that I am literally running (swimming & cycling!) a couple of years late!!! But as the old adage goes.....better late than never!
I was immediately drawn to entering this particular Triathlon, as it was dedicated to raising money for, not only a great cause, but one that is very personal to me. Many years ago in my childhood I lost my Nana to Breast Cancer, and in the intervening years, research has advanced such that many more women (and a small proportion of men also!) have overcome this disease, and one of those women is my Mum. Mum still amazes me that throughout the traumatic time of uncertainty of diagnosis through to treatment, and then getting on with life after cancer, she has always remained uncomplaining and dignified. Charities like Breast Cancer Care, were either not in existence or in their infancy when Mum was diagnosed with cancer, but I feel sure that she would have benefited from the support that is available today from this charity for both sufferers and their families.
I am doing this Triathlon for Nana and Mum (who knows that I hate running with a passion!!) but also to support the Breast Cancer Care Charity who are there to provide information, support and advice to thousands of women with this terrible disease. They are there to help sufferers and their families, course through an often uncertain journey, wherever it leads. And like every charity they are ever-reliant on support from the likes of you and I.
Like life itself, I am sure participating in such a worthwhile event will bring joy and laughter (and hopefully not too many tears!!) and the icing on the cake for me in achieving a personal goal, would be to raise as much money as possible for the Breast Cancer Care Charity.
I therefore implore & beg you to rummage in your hand-bags, down the back of the sofa, in the footwells of your cars to find some money to donate to this cause, and give me the real boost I am sure I will need to keep me going on the 2nd July 2011. You just never know when you may need such support organisation such as Breast Cancer Care for you or your family and loved ones in the future.....and lets pray, not ever!
