Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
At the start of this year a couple of us got together to plan a serious challenge to raise awareness and money for a great charity that can beat Leukaemia.
On 7th June 2014, our challenge starts. It will be a physical one, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats and climbing the 3 Peaks en route, but it is nothing compared to the challenges faced by those suffering blood and bone cancer
Why ride for Anthony Nolan Trust?
(WARNING: this is the deliberate tear jerking bit)
2 Years ago, our friend, Lee Conchie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Lee was a strong, fit 42 year old when he was diagnosed. He was a Tai Chi instructor, ate a healthy diet and didn’t really drink. He typified the man you least expect to get ill.
Lee was dedicated to his family and loved life, friends and Blackpool Football Club.
He went through a lot of treatment, much of it painful and debilitating, but he was amazingly strong, always cheerful and whenever possible active through it all.
Finally a near exact bone marrow match was found through Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Registry, but it came too late and sadly Lee died in October.
The Anthony Nolan Trust works to save the lives of people with blood and bone cancer and in his last year along with organising a support group for patients in the cancer ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Lee literally became a poster boy for the charity. Through his incredible bravery and unbelievable spirit he inspired everyone he met and his memory continues to inspire us.
By riding for Anthony Nolan we hope not only to raise money for the charity but also to raise awareness of how easy it is to become a bone marrow donor and encourage as many people as possible to register.
As a good friend said, "It's easy, you can be a hero and save a life; cape optional"
If you can please register
If you can please sponsor us
But mostly, please think of our friend Lee and smile.
Thanks
