Story
Having worked in Oncology wards at Alder Hey Children's Hospital and on ICU at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, I have seen first hand the devastating effect blood cancer has on children, young people and their families. I have worked closely with children who have sadly lost their lives to this horrendous disease, something no family should ever have to deal with.
Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.
This amazing charity are also the sponsors of Trafford Netball Club who most people will know I play for and captain the national Prem side. Together we have worked to raise money at our home games through donations for refreshments and raised awareness of the charity on our social media pages.
I would like to make a special mention to Professor Rob Wynn who introduced me to this charity and the reason I am running the marathon for them - Rob is a consultant Paediatric Haematologist at RMCH and having played netball alongside his daughter for many years has become a good friend and someone I admire in all that he does. Rob and his team do incredible work every day to save lives and he's also an excellent minibus driver to the netball team!
