Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen to put myself through a pretty tough training regime over the next 5 months to prepare for three challenges all in aid of breast cancer care. I will be warming up with the excitement of my first Lincoln 10k in April followed by the tough mudder event in May. Although I flippantly mention the tough mudder I am still in denial that this will actually involve running 12 miles whilst going through obstacles such as being electrocuted, crawling through mud, running through fire, being high pressure hosed, and these are only a few examples…And my final challenge in June will be to cycle from London to Paris. On the 12th of June I will embark on a 317 mile, four day cycle trip through the countryside in Kent before crossing the English Channel to adventure through the quaint villages and medieval market towns of Northern France, with the trip culminating at the iconic Eiffel Tower
So why exactly have I decided to do all of this? Because in 1968 a lady called Betty Westgate went through something harder than I can ever imagine. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, in a time when there were many myths, inaccuracies and superstitions surrounding breast cancer and information and education were not readily available. Five years after her own diagnosis she became the founder and president of Breast Cancer Care through her passion for empowerment for women. Breast Cancer Care provides a range of services to support those affected by breast cancer, their friends and family. Whilst I have been fortunate enough not be affected by Cancer, I am reassured that if I, my friends or family were in a position where they required support there are foundations such as Breast Cancer Awareness in place to provide assistance.
Here are just a few examples to show how much your support will help:
£2 pays for a headscarf set, helping to boost the confidence of a woman who has lost her hair as a result of her breast cancer treatment
£5 pays for someone to learn about breast awareness at a community-based workshop delivered by our expert team.
£10 pays to provide a comprehensive, easy-to-understand information pack for someone newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
