Story
A major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck Turkey and North West Syria on 6th February 2023. With aftershocks continuing to destroy buildings in Hatay and surrounding regions.
The earthquakes are estimated to have directly impacted 26 million people across Türkiye and Syria. The focus has now shifted to providing essential support for survivors who have lost their homes, belongings, livelihoods and loved ones.
As of 20 March 2023, more than 57,300 deaths were confirmed: more than 50,000 in Türkiye, and more than 7,200 in Syria. It is the deadliest earthquake in what is present day Turkey since the 526 Antioch earthquake, making it the deadliest natural disaster in its modern history.
I travelled to Türkiye in February distributing food packs, hygiene packs, blankets, hot meals, tents and much more to those in Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, and remote villages around these provinces and witnessed the effects of the earthquake and how it left families with lost friends and family members, homeless and out of work.
I will be revisiting these areas again on the 7th April to distribute food packs, Ramadan food packs, clean water, hot meals and look into ways to how to develop longer terms projects like education for children, how to move families out of tents and into containers/cabins and how to assist people with their livelihoods.
I need your generous and continuous support to help succeed in this project. Please donate generously.
