Story
Hello friends from Singapore & beyond,
As several of you may know, I am an animal lover and deeply interested in human/animal/environmental health. In 2022, I volunteered for Mission Rabies in Uganda to vaccinate dogs against rabies and I loved it! You can check some photos by browsing the gallery above or you can read more about my experience volunteering in Uganda in this blog post: https://www.journey-animal-welfare.org/post/volunteering-with-mission-rabies-in-uganda
so here I go again for a new mission in Cambodia end of May this time :) Mission Rabies has set the highest target ever again: vaccinate 100'000 dogs in 10 days!
Why Cambodia?
Cambodia has one of the highest rabies death rates per capita of any country in the world. In Phnom Penh one child dies from rabies every week - we need to change this! Mission rabies started mass dog vaccination campaigns in 2019 as well as educational campaigns in 2020. You can read more about their work on the ground there: here: https://missionrabies.com/projects/cambodia
About rabies and Mission Rabies
Rabies is a zoonotic disease, which means it can be transmitted from animals to humans. Most of human rabies is due to dog bites.
Despite being 100% vaccine preventable, rabies causes at least 70,000 human deaths annually, most of which are children.
Mission Rabies is a UK-based charity and international NGO working to eliminate rabies by 2030. Following World Health Organisation guidelines, Mission Rabies run mass canine vaccination drives and educate local communities on rabies prevention in India, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania and Cambodia. Their results speak for themselves with the number of human rabies deaths falling every year in the communities they engage.
How you can help
To run such vaccination campaigns reaching thousand of dogs isn't free for Mission Rabies: logistics, vaccine doses purchase, educational material (flyers) etc. That's why I am fundraising for them! Every donation will go straight to Mission Rabies account on the JustGiving platform. Start by clicking on the "Give Now" button, it only takes 1 minute.
If you can't donate, no worries - you can also help by sharing this to help reaching the goal.
Thanks a lot for your support to make rabies a disease of the past!
