Story

Imagine the fastest, safest, most earth-munching all-terrain vehicle in the world. Then imagine the opposite. Three wheels, half a horse power and more fun than any other vehicle on planet earth, the humble Rickshaw is undoubtedly the ultimate long distance, off-road machine. Despite being designed for short distances on road.

Now imagine the joy of trying to get this untrustworthy steed 3000 km across India over the Himalayas, through Jungle and across the Rajasthani desert. This is the Rickshaw Run; an unsupported maniac of an adventure which wobbles over thousands of miles of ridiculous terrain.

As well as all an adventure for us, this Rickshaw Run is (hopefully) going to raise an absolutely massive amount of money for charity. We have designated two charities, FRANK Water Projects and Lifeline WA as our nominated charities. Our goal is to raise at least $1000 for both of these fine organisations

We choose FRANK Water as one of our charities because we believe access to clean drinking water is something every human needs. FRANK water uses low cost sustainable technology that can be run by the community, which we think is essential to providing clean water in the long term.

FRANK Water funds 5-filter, reverse osmosis clean water projects in some of the world's poorest communities, predominantly India.  This provides thousands of children and families with crucial access to clean water for drinking, food preparation, bathing and sanitation. Since 2008, Rickshaw Run participants have funded 52 clean water drinking systems across India.

We have set up two websites which you use to donate directly to the charity in our event name:

The Rickshaw Race Rules (From the Adventurists)

The on your own rule.

This is exactly what it says on the tin. If you take part in this mother of all Indian adventures you are actually on an adventure, not some poncy guided tour. That means no support trucks taking all the fun out of it. So when you get stuck you have to get yourself unstuck. Simple.

The saving a part of the world rule.

Since we like planet earth, we ask all our teams to raise at least 1000 bits of English gold to give to some amazing charities in India and a charity of your own choice. In our case that’s FRANK water projects and Lifeline Western Australia.

The not a race rule.

This is not a race; there is no prize for coming first – why not take in the scenery instead (and raise lots of money for two very worthy causes)?

The don't come if you are a wimp rule.

Sometimes people get the wrong idea and find themselves with wet pants and a furious rage on when they discover the Rickshaw Run is not a beach holiday. This is boring for us to deal with, so do think about the reality of putting your life in danger and being smelly and uncomfortable for 2-3 weeks.
