The Challenge

In May 2010 an intrepid group of people will “take on” the Three Peaks Challenge in order to help to raise funds for FCE. The aim is to conquer the peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon in 24 hours (or as close to this time as possible).

Fundatia Crestina Elim

Fundatia Crestina Elim (FCE) is a Romanian organisation set up to run projects in and around Marghita in North West Romania. As the foundation has grown, more and more people have become involved, not just Romanians but Swedes and also people from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and other countries. The work is completely reliant on voluntary contributions and gifts. What does FCE do…?The main purpose of FCE is to help abandoned children and young people gain a dignified life.In 1990 the first trucks delivering aid were sent to Romania to relieve the desperate need of these children and young people. These have since been followed by long term help, enabling FCE to assist those in need to help themselves. The work impacts approximately 200 abandoned children and young people, 80 poor families as well as elderly and disabled people in two state run institutions. To do this FCE employs around 40 people. In addition, there is a team of approximately 25 people from different countries who come to help. These volunteers provide their own funding in order that the finances of FCE can be channelled into the work.Children who have been abandoned as babies and have grown up in orphanages are robbed of most things that a child needs. The ideal solution is for such a child to go to a loving family. Some children have been taken home by their biological families and many of the children have gone to adoptive families in other countries while others have been placed in Romanian adoptive or foster families. The children also need the chance to be integrated into main stream schools. A lack of good upbringing and healthy values make it very difficult for the older children to fit into society. Those who have grown up in orphanages need help in finding inner healing and restoration. The aims of FCE are to care for these children and young people to provide them with values and support them until they are no longer dependent.

While Romania is part of the European Union it is still in a difficult financial position. High prices and low salaries contribute to the fact that many continue to live in poverty. Therefore, aid organisations such as FCE have a big role to play. Young people, who would otherwise be with out a chance, now receive help towards obtaining an education, employment and social skills. Some of them are employed in the projects run by FCE.

Money donated through this site will be given to The George Müller Charitable Trust, which will consider the needs and ministry of FCE in Romania when distributing gifts.
