Story
In 2013 my brother Nick was diagnosed with stem cell cancer. 2 years on and he is in the midst of treatment which has included chemotherapy and will include a stem cell transplant. Stem Cell cancers arise from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow. Unlike many cancers, they do not exist as a lump or tumour. Treatments include bone marrow and stem cell transplants which can be from the sufferer or another donor. The Anthony Nolan Trust supports patients and their families and encourages the public to join the register of potential bone marrow donors . This, is important for Nick as he may need a donor from the register. He is showing amazing strength and fortitude whilst being bombarded with different regimes of drugs so a little run round London on a Sunday seems the very least I can do !
I would also like to mention Shaun Wyatt , one of the nicest , kindest , funniest patients ,my colleagues and I had the pleasure and privilege to look after. We would have all loved to have met him in different circumstances and were constantly staggered by his strength and tolerance . It was clear that he was a devoted family man as well as a brilliant pilot and car, motorbike and boat enthusiast We will miss him and I'm am so very touched that he left instructions, for any donations to come to this page .
I'd better get round the course before the street cleaners come out the following morning as I won't be doing this again , the mind is willing and all that ! I will however, be thinking about my dear brother Nick and Shaun while I make sure I don't get overtaken by a rhino ...
I'm very grateful for any donations large or small .
My son Rob is also running for Wellbeing of Women supposedly with me but I fear will only put up with my pace for about the first half , then I will be left in his wake ! He has a just giving page and would also be very grateful for donations.
Thanks
Alison
