On June 9th we are walking 27miles in the Peak District with 1000m of ascent which should take 10-12 hours. I’m undertaking this with 3 other wonderful girls Caroline, Jo & Sarah who also work at The Alexandra Hospital, who support my passion for anti bullying.
I’m am a Bullying champion for Bullying UK, part of Family Lives, is a leading charity providing advice and support to anyone affected by bullying. They also run a free confidential helpline.
Anti bullying is something I am passionate about. I was systematically bullied throughout senior school and it has affected me into my adult life as well as making life at school a very unhappy time for me. I cannot at times remember specifics of what the bullies said or did but I can never forget how they made me feel. My bullying at least stopped when I closed my front door, once I was home I felt safe but now with social media there is no escape and these children being bullied must feel desperate!
Bullying needs to be stamped out. Here’s some facts :
There were over 24,000 Childline counselling sessions with children about bullying in 2016/17
Ditch the label April 2016 report found that:
1.5 million young people (50%) have been bullied within the past year.
• 145,800 (19%) of these were bullied EVERY DAY.
Bullying can cause many young people to feel isolated, worthless, and experience thoughts of suicide. A national bullying survey by Bullying UK found that 40% of young people who reported being bullied experienced thoughts of suicide and 39% had self-harmed. It also found that 42% of young people had had to take time off school after they had experienced bullying.
Anything you can give to help this worthy cause I’m grateful. X
