Story
WHY AM I DOING THIS? In 2004 my mothers health took a turn for the worse. By the start of 2005 she'd had to cancel her long planned trip to attend my brothers wedding in New Zealand. While in Australia, en route myself, she called me to say she'd been diagnosed with Myeloma. A cancer that affects the bone marrow and that it could not be cured. It was crushing news for the whole family. At the time Myeloma sufferers weren't expected to survive more than 5 years at best.
7 years on I'm delighted to say, thanks to charities like Myeloma UK, we can still enjoy weekends and holidays with Mum (Granny by the Sea) at her home in Cornwall.
The research Myeloma UK undertake is invaluable, the only UK charity dedicated solely to Myeloma research and your donations will help keep that research going.
MY CHALLENGE: In April this year I will be competing in the Arcitc Circle Race. Over 3 days I will cross country ski over 100km in temperatures as low as -30 degrees C, sleeping out in tents by night. I will be taking my own food and provisions for the whole race distance. This challenge is set in Greenland, 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle and will take me between 5 and 8 hours a day.
Months of hard training and preparation have already gone into the challenge, mile upon mile of tedious road running as well as many hours in the gym.
Myeloma UK is an incredible charity and your money will make a world of difference to their research and care provision. Not to mention the families like mine and sufferers like my Mum.
