We support kidney patients to ensure no one faces kidney disease alone

Story

When I was only 18 months old, I became extremely unwell where Doctors did not know what was wrong with me. I was then put into the Leukaemia ward where my mum and dads life’s were thrown up side down. After further tests and scans, they identified Chronic Renal Failure, this was where my intense health journey began.

Even though I was a sick child, I did not let this stop me, I was a very happy normal child, always out to play being active, you wouldn’t know I was any different. This was up until age 11 where my health and kidney function deteriorated and I was given the go ahead to begin dialysis, something which no kidney patient wants to really go through as you can’t have much of a life with being on this. In between the preparation for dialysis both my mum and dad were being tested to see if they could be a match for a kidney transplant. Dad went first and this came back negative due to having a cyst on his kidney therefore it was mums turn. Weeks past after many different tests where she then got the all clear and I didn’t have to begin dialysis either which was a huge bonus.

After the operation, the difference in my health was second  to none. It was a huge lease of life, I was like a brand new person, glowing as people would say, I bounced back to school after just 2 months ready to take on my new life. I had new taste buds, more energy, everything was amazing, indescribable. This was when my life really started, between different school trips, passing exams, family holidays, making memories with friends, growing up, leaving high school, going to college, going to University, learning to drive (twice) and moving out my family home & going on MANY holidays and Music Festivals. I’ve not held back, I’ve had the best 10 years this kidney could have gave me and its all thanks to my amazing mum! She is still going above and beyond for me and been my total rock through out this hard time recently, practically being my full time carer.

Recently, I have became extremely unwell, deteriorating without noticeable linkable signs that my kidney was failing for quite some time. Having mild symptoms such breathlessness, thinking I had developed asthma, the GP actually gave me an inhaler (lol), normally feeling sick, no apetite some days, I played this down to being sick of healthy eating lol, normal headaches which again everyone gets. Reasons why I didn’t link this is because I have kept so well the past 10 years, It was a huge shock this full situation. On Friday 22nd of February, I decided to call the Renal ward as I couldn’t keep down even my anti-rejection medicine for kidney which is extremely important, I was admitted to the ward where I’ve had 2 operations, intensive treartment to see if my kidney has any function left in it but these treatments infact failed and the kidney is going into rejection and I am now beginning long term dialysis until I receive another kidney transplant hopefully within the upcoming year.

In spite of this, I still remain hopefully as I have had many potential doners come forward. I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages, people who have came forward to be tested to donate their kidney within my family and for all my lovely generous gifts and cards I have received. I am so overwhelmed with everything. As part of this terrible situation, I would like to turn this into a positive and set up this just-giving page for kidney care UK, who are celebrating World Kidney Day 2020 TODAY & have helped me through out this time. Instead of anymore card purchases, any small donation would be greatly appreciated x
