Story
My name is Ethan Terry and I'm a 19 year old Geography student studying at Newcastle University. I have decided to take on this challenge in order to raise money and awareness for the work that Amnesty International UK do, fighting for the rights of people across the world. I was initially inspired by the fight against the death penalty, which is still active in over 50 countries, and remains a completely inhumane act. I am also inspired by the work done to protect the people that are most vulnerable to current pandemic.
I will be beginning the challenge in June 2021.
Any donation would be much appreciated, and I will try to post updates on my social media. Let's go!
A word from Amnesty International UK:
At our heart we are about people. We are about people like Jabbar Salavan a young activist in Azerbaijan who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after calling for peaceful protests against the government. We are about people like Ben a student at De Montfort University. In 2011 Ben joined thousands of others in writing to the Azerbaijan authorities to demand Jabbars release. It worked. Jabbar was freed by Presidential pardon that December, nearly two years earlier than intended. We are about Donatella, our Syria researcher who has repeatedly braved the dangers in the country to collect evidence of war crimes driven by her commitment to gather independent information and bring those responsible to justice.
