303,000 women die every year from complications in child-birth which occur mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa. The main cause of death for these women are post partum haemorrhage (bleeding after birth) and pre eclampsia (a dangerous pregnancy complication). 99% of all these deaths are avoidable with the right medical care and resources.
Our lovely friend and colleague Helen, who sadly passed away before Christmas, devoted herself to improving maternity care in Liberia in partnership with an incredible charity, Life for African Mothers. Her passion and commitment to the charity has inspired us to follow in her footsteps by travelling to Liberia in March for 10 days, facilitating workshops for midwives and teaching emergency skills. We know that by merely teaching some of the skills that we use day to day as midwives in the UK, we are giving Liberian midwives the tools to reduce the maternal and neonatal mortality rates even further.
Please help us by donating to ensure that LFAM can keep sending midwives to Liberia to teach these essential skills and to provide life saving medication they need.
Thank you,
Esther and Robyn xxx
