Story
This March I will be running in Londons Vitality Big Half Marathon to raise money for StreetDoctors. StreetDoctors is an incredible charity providing training in life-saving skills for youths at risk of knife violence across the UK.
Violence is the 3rd leading cause of death in young people across Europe with 43,516 knife crime offences reported last year in the UK alone. StreetDoctors are a national charity of young healthcare workers who provide teaching sessions on first aid to at-risk young people as well as a safe space to explore attitudes to violence. In 2018 StreetDoctors reached 4039 young people, with 85% saying they would be willing to act in an emergency and 94% saying they would know what to do if someone was bleeding or unconscious in post-session evaluations.
I started teaching with StreetDoctors in London last year. It has been a huge step out of my comfort zone but also very rewarding. By running to raise money I hope to give back to StreetDoctors and help them continue their valuable work, empowering young people to become street doctors in their own communities.
Any donations would be hugely appreciated and will go straight to teaching young people.
Thank you so much!
