Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January this year my wonderful Mum was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and faced the daunting prospect of having a neck dissection. Despite the overwhelming strain that the NHS was facing, it still managed to diagnose, treat and support her during this challenging time. Thankfully Mum's operation was successful, however it unfortunately had several complications which were a result of her having previously had chemotherapy and radiotherapy from throat cancer in 2016. Despite the challenges she faced following her operation, my Mum was so positive and determined to make a good recovery. After everything that has been thrown at her, she has made an amazing recovery and is back to her loving, caring and cheeky self!
We also lost a dear member of our family, Alan, to cancer. Even when Alan was undergoing various treatments and operations, he remained determined and upbeat and continued to be a real support to my Mum during her recovery. Unfortunately, though, the cancer progressed and Alan could no longer fight against this unforgiving disease and he passed away peacefully at the end of March.
After Mum's treatment in 2016, Soline was fantastic in raising so much money for charity and now it's my turn to step up! I am running the Bedford Half Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and support them in all the hard work that they do. I will also be doing a special gin glass, with the money raised from the sales going towards the charity. Cancer Research is very close to my heart as I know how this horrible disease can affect so many people and the sadness it can leave. I am hoping the money I raise will go towards diagnosing cancer earlier and developing better treatments.
As well as raising money for charity, I am running this half marathon to remember our beloved Alan and to let Mum know how proud I am of her - she really is a superstar!!!
