In October 2014 my dad suffered a major stroke.  It was touch and go for a bit as due to his existing medical conditions, medical staff at the hospital couldn't take the usual path of treatment.  He made it through those critical few days and as a result of the stroke has been left paralysed down his right side and unable to speak.  My dad now needs full time care to see to all of his needs and lives full time in a residential nursing home.  The Stroke Association were there in the hospital to answer my mum's questions during those first few weeks and months and have provided essential information to my family.
