Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As the title says I am doing a tandem sky dive in March in aid of One Recovery Cannock (part of the ADS group)
I would like to tell you a little bit about why I am doing this and why it’s important to me..
As some of you will know on the 7th October 2015 we lost our Dad - the funniest, kindest, most caring loving person who has left a huge hole in our lives.
What some of you may not be aware of are the personal battles and struggles he fought that sadly he couldn’t beat and ultimately contributed to his passing aged 65.
Dad was an incredibly hard working, fit; well and active man who was a Tae-Kwando black belt and at aged 40 ran the London marathon. A series of events then unfolded in his life which meant he sought solace in drink and sadly become dependent on alcohol, a battle he would fight to the very end for 25 years.
Throughout this time Dad sought help in many places and of varying types, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals and support groups – often remaining sober for periods of time. One Recovery were a lifeline for my Dad, his wife Sarah and myself and Shannon, they helped work through some of the demons and this work allowed us to have a better relationship with the man we all loved so much.
Dad was one of the lucky ones who still had a family support network who loved and supported him – as tough as it could be at times. There are many people whoaren’t so lucky and rely on One Recovery as their sole support, if the good work that is done could help just one of these people stay on the right track Dad would be so happy.
Yes One Recovery help addicts of all substance and offer a needle exchange service which is controversial, many of you might feel that this cause isn’t as worthy as others. However I would implore you to support me as an individual in honouring the memory of an amazing man who even in the tough times retained his sense of humour was still there anytime and every time we needed him and most importantly never ever gave up trying.
