Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have always loved the mountains and have been inspired to do something life changing so when this opportunity was presented to me in March this year (at a CAKE EXHIBITION!!) and the dates fitted with half term holidays it was too much to ignore. It all just seemed to fit, I live in Surrey, am South African and climbing the highest mountain in Africa for a Surrey based African charity! Giving Africa is a small independent charity whose ethos is "eradicating poverty through the power of learning" and their first project building the Bethal School in Burkina Faso (one of the poorest countries in the world) is due to be completed in October 2013, how exciting.
Tina and I signed up the do the challenge in April this year, we started collecting gear, making the most of the summer sales and started fund raising...car boot sales, charity cakes and workshops and wine tasting evenings coming up, all very exciting. We signed up to do a training weekend in Snowdonia at the beginning of September and climbed Mount Snowdon in the most awful weather, a tough but extremely exhilarating challenge. That is where my challenge began.....unfortunately I slipped coming down and tore my medial collateral ligament and snapped my cruciate ligament, I was gutted that my Kili dreams may be over. I have had great teatment so far, been rehabbing religiously and knee feels stronger and stronger every day. As a result I have decided to go ahead and climb anyway (with the help of a very sturdy knee brace and lots of painkillers!) and will have my cruciate op after I return. I still have time to train and will give it my all, for myself and for Giving Africa. Thank you for your support.
