Story
Enna Thea is 15 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Scoliosis. We are urgently seeking funding for a life-changing operation to straighten her spine. Enna Thea was born with Cerebral Palsy which affects her mobility. In order to keep her balance she curves to one side causing her spine to grow in an S-shaped curve. It is now at 53.8 degrees which is over the critical 50 degrees when surgery is the only option; it will save her from limited mobility, chronic back pain and damage to her organs. The NHS waiting list is so long due to Covid that we need to have this urgent surgery done privately. The surgery involves spinal fusion where some vertebrae are fused together, and spinal rods are inserted down the length of the spine. Regular and frequent physiotherapy is essential for the after care for up to a year.
Enna Thea uses a walker and loves sport. She plays frame football with her team and is doing GCSE PE with a tailored sports programme. She would be devastated to lose her mobility as sport and fitness are central to her life.
When she was born Enna Thea defied all the odds when she removed her own feeding tube and drank from a bottle. The doctor predicted that she would be unlikely to ever hold a pencil, yet she has just completed GCSE Art. And in 2019 she completed a 5K walk to raise money for charity. With this determination we are confident that Enna Thea will benefit from the operation and do all the exercises to make it work. We owe it to her to be equally determined to raise funds for this essential surgery so that she can continue to surprise us and make us laugh with her wonderful sense of humour.
If we can make it to £75,000 we can give Enna Thea the life she deserves, so any contribution, however small or large, will be welcomed with delight and relief. Thank you so much!
