Story
On 30th April we have a team of seven people competing in the Tough Mudder challenge in Henley. They will be batting with the hills, valleys and fields of Culden Faw, overcoming obstacle after obstacle (most likely in the wet and the rain!).
We will be doing this challenge in support of one of our 2016 chosen charities, Ready Emmy Walk. This charity is working towards raising £85,000 to take two year old Emmy King to America for life changing spinal surgery.
Emmy is a twin and suffered brain damage after she and her sister, Ava, got into difficulties during pregnancy. Sadly Ava didn’t survive and Emmy’s brain damage caused Cerebral Palsy that means she is unable to stand up or walk.
The surgery is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) and it can result in some amazing outcomes. Children who have been told they will never walk are not only walking, but running, jumping and dancing too!
It was pioneered in the 1980s by Dr T. S. Park and he’s performed it over 3000 times on people from around the world. Sadly it is not available on the NHS but after reviewing her case, he has said Emmy is a perfect candidate.
Emmy's family dream that she will be able to walk into school on her first day and our goal is help her with achieving that.
Thank you very much for your support! You can read more about Emmy’s story on www.justgiving.com/readyemmywalk.
