Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have decided to run the London 2017 marathon in aid of Sense. Sense is a national charity that supports people who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs, to enjoy a more independent life.
Deaf blindness is a term that is used to describe a combination of both sight and hearing loss. It can affect people of all ages, from birth or due to deterioration in later life. Some people are completely deaf and blind, while others have some remaining sight and/or hearing that they make use of. Some also have additional disabilities that affect their daily lives. The two impairments together increase the effects of each other. Can you imagine starting to lose your sight.....and also your hearing?
Sense supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deaf and blind. They work with children, young people, adults and the elderly offering a range of housing, educational and leisure opportunities. £5 could buy a set of musical bells to help stimulate even the tiniest amount of a deafblind child's hearing in music therapy, £30 could pay for a deafblind child to go swimming at a Sense family centre and £1000 could provide 2 deafblind older people with an assessment to ensure they get the services that will meet their needs, breaking isolation and keeping them independent in their own homes.
