Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In October we are taking part in the Camel to Castle Cycle - a long distance cycle from Cornwall to Nantes in France , in memory of my amazing mum (and wife), Pat Wheeler, who tragically lost her 8 week battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the end of April 2017.
My mum spent 24 years of her life raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care, she was extremely passionate about the work they did and I have so many memories of her spending hours organising Christmas and Easter bizarres, cream teas, and shaking a collection tin in the rain with her local fundraising committee! We always supported her doing this, but it was only when she was admitted herself, first to St Julia's, and then to Mount Edgcumbe that I fully appreciated what she had been tirelessly fundraising for. The dignity and support they gave to both her, and us during the last 2 weeks of her life was amazing in every way - they were finally able to manage her pain and she felt safe and cared for. My Dad stayed in a bed next to her for the whole time and she died with him by her side. I literally cannot imagine going through what we did without the support of the incredible hospice staff, and my Dad, brother and I will be eternally grateful for this.
So now we are going to continue your fundraising legacy Mum. I know you would be delighted with Team Pat - and so proud of us all! Especially me - before this I could barely ride a bike and am definately not a fan of all the lycra! It's fair to say that it certainly would not have been my event of choice!
So please help by giving us (or any other member of Team Pat) whatever you can - every single pound helps. Cornwall Hospice Care receives very little government funding so totally relies on fundraising to operate - they really need our help to continue to fund this care. The more people know about Cornwall Hospice Care the greater the impact, so please spread the word by sharing our pages with friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting us - it means so much to us.
