Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

My sister, Sarah, and I are taking part in the May 2012 China Trek. This is an event organised by Skyline in aid of LOROS (Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering).

The trek involves around 32 hours trekking time along the Beijing stretch of the Great Wall of China.

We are taking part in this challenge to celebrate the lives of our Mum, Jill Woods (08 July 1958 - 24 December 1991 - aged 33 years), and our Dad, Gary Peter Woods (08 March 1958 - 23 March 2011 - aged 53 years). Both our Mum and Dad were cared for by LOROS at the end of their lives.

Unfortunately, as I was only 1 years old and my sister was only 3 year old, we are both too young  to recall the care LOROS provided to Mum but we had full insight and experience of the fantastic work they do during the 6 weeks they cared for Dad earlier this year.  

Whilst LOROS does receive statutory financial support, the current services and level of care just could not be provided without the generosity and ongoing support of the local community. It costs LOROS £7 million each year to provide its services which are funded by the generous support of the local community, businesses and a grant from the NHS.  All the services are free to patients and their families and LOROS are proud that over 90% of any donated amount is spent on patient care.
