Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This is why I am raising money for Leeds Cares the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
I have been thinking of ways to raise money for Leeds Cares since my mum was discharged from St James hospital Leeds at the end of January and getting my head shaved seemed preferable to running a marathon, jumping out of a plane or anything else that involved being fit or heights.
My Mum (Babs Wilson) was first diagnosed with Cancer in 1982 she was 36 years old. She is now 73 and a 4 time cancer survivor (Cervical 1982, Oral 2014, Lung 2014 and Kidney 2015). The latter 3 were all treated surgically, at either Leeds General Infirmary or St James University Hospital. Surgeons removed part of her tongue, a lobe of her lung and her left kidney – dieting by stealth as we called it.
Last May my Mum became extremely ill again, involving constant trips to and from Jimmys, with lengthy stays in hospital whilst tests were performed and they struggled to stabilise her weight and electrolytes. Mum finally had to have emergency surgery in November and once again St James saved her life. The road to recovery has not been an easy one but the fact that she is still with us in these crazy times is not only down to the force of nature that is Babs, but also the exceptional care provided by everyone at Jimmys, especially the staff on ward J45, the Surgical team, the Nutritional team and the Occupational Health team. Not only did they keep Mum going at her lowest, but the support and kindness they showed the whole family through some extremely dark days will never be forgotten.
So in way of saying thanks, I would like to give a little back so Jimmys can carry on giving world-class care and support for families across the UK.
