Nowzad is the first and only animal shelter in the whole of Afghanistan. Their shelter can hold 130 dogs, 40 cats and even donkeys! They work tirelessly to help and protect these animals and have the aim to rehome as many as possible. 

However, not all animals that are in their care just come off the street! Often when soldiers are serving in a war zone they find themselves adopting on of the many stray dogs or cats that are struggling to survive there. This is when Nowzad steps in! They arrange for the animal to get to the Nowzad shelter safetly and provide them with shelter whilst they go through all the necessary checks until they can be reunited with their solider friend who could be anywhere in the world! To date 1200 dogs and cats have be reunited with soldiers in countries like U.K., USA, Thailand, South Africa and many more! 

I have personally chosen to run this marathon for Nowzad as I first came across their charities work when I was 16 and saw their books about their journey for sale in Tesco. I was immediately hooked and amazed about the work and sacrifices they have made to protect the animals of Afghanistan! Now at 22 years old they still continue to amaze me and I would love nothing more than to help them continue their work for the animals and for the soldiers!
