Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We both lost our Dads to Alzheimer's this last year, and have experienced first hand how difficult it is to support our loved ones as this awful disease takes hold. In memory of our Dads, David Crowther and Graham Clark, we have decided to fundraise for Dementia UK by cycling a combined 650 miles in June. Tessa recently took up cycling, and has set herself a target of cycling 150 miles, and as a more seasoned cyclist Emma is aiming for 500 miles.
Accessing and understanding the care and support available for people with dementia and their carers can be really challenging and stressful. Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service. They give the compassionate one-to-one support, guidance and practical solutions people need, and that can be hard to find elsewhere.
When Emma's Dad, David, went into hospital in August 2020, she, her Mum and her brother experienced first-hand the compassionate, sensitive, knowledgeable and highly professional support offered by Admiral Nurse Kerry Lyons at Bolton NHS Trust.
Tessa's Dad, Graham, and family received support from a range of local support services and charities over the last few years. Whilst they didn't access help from the Admiral Nurses, they would like to support any initiative which provides much needed help to people living with dementia and their families.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
We are very grateful for all donations. We plan to give updates here as our June challenge progresses.
Thanks very much. Emma & Tessa xx
