In a moment of optimism I signed up for this challenge in March 2021; it was something far off on the horizon to plan towards and a promise of times beyond COVID.  I also wanted to make a commitment towards supporting the charity partner of MGP - last time I jumped out of a plane!  I now find myself 5 months away from departing to Jordan and wondering what I've signed myself up for, especially as I don't like to get hot!

This challenge involves 5 days of trekking through (and up!) the mountains and deserts of Jordan; ending at the city of Petra - a UNESCO world heritage site and filming location for Indiana Jones.  I will be walking over 70km, in temperatures of roughly 30°C by day and 5°C by night, where I will be camping along the trail.  The max altitude we're predicted to reach is 1100m above sea level; the trek is rated as 'Challenging'.

I have paid the registration fees myself; any money donated through this site will be going direct to ARUK.  Mercedes F1 have been in partnership with Alzheimer's Research UK for the past couple of years, which is what led me to finding this opportunity.  Away from the team connection I felt driven to wanting to fundraise for ARUK as Alzheimer's and Dementia feel like an inescapable part of friends and family members growing older; ARUK don't just work on finding cures for the future but also on supporting those who are currently suffering with the symptoms.
