Hello!

I am taking part in the Great North Run 2019 in the hope to raise as much money as I can for Alzheimer's Society.

Just to provide some context, I am NOT an avid runner, I have maybe only ran around 6km before, so this will certainly be a challenge for me!

Many people I know has someone in their family that suffers from dementia, unfortunately I too have grandparents that suffer. 

My Grandad Harry passed away after years of suffering with dementia, my Nana Lucy saw her life companion fade away, and now she is fading too. My Nana Gerda also shows early signs.

It is upsetting to see those who suffer from Alzheimer's/Dementia have worked hard all their lives, loved and looked after their family. They deserve to enjoy a peaceful and dignified retirement and be able to see their grandchildren grow up.

When I visit them, I feel powerless, but the least I can do is run a half marathon in honour of them to say thank you for being the most wonderful grandparents.

I hope to get a great time and training is well underway! But most importantly I hope we can raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer's Society who fund PhD students that pioneer ground-breaking research and will hopefully one day, beat Alzheimer's disease. 

I'm doing the Great North Run for my Nana Lucy, Nana Gerda and Grandad Harry and the 850,000+ (projected to rise to 1 million by 2021) others who suffer in the UK, just like my grandparents.

And I will be thinking of them all when I cross the finish line!!
