In April 2014 my brother Paul Sheridan tragically died cycling home from work from a sudden cardiac death called AVRC. He was an amazing & very proud brother, son, husband, father and friend who is truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Paul was the fittest person I knew, running or cycling pretty much everyday. He ran 7 marathons in his short lifetime, all in very impressive times. I ran my first marathon 3 days before Paul died last year and will treasure the phone call Paul made to me afterwards telling me how proud he was of my achievement.
It was Paul who got me in to running longer distances. About 7-8 years ago I was doing 7-8 mile runs for fun and Paul pretty much dared me to run the Richmond Half Marathon with him a few weeks on. I ran it and actually quite enjoyed it. Since then Paul and I ran Reading half marathon a couple of times at the same time; Paul was obviously much faster and finished well ahead of me!
So it only seems right that I run Reading half marathon this year; almost one year on since his death, in his memory. I want to raise as much money and awareness about the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the young); a charity who have helped us as a family since Paul died to understand more about AVRC and to test us all for the heart condition.
Paul; every step of training is in your memory. Forever my brother, always missed and never forgotten.
