Story

Back in 2008 my Mum was diagnosed with Leukaemia, she fought this devastating disease for 511 days before she passed, she was just 46. In honor of her fight for life and continued optimism, even through the darkest days, I will be running, walking and jogging (but most likely crawling) 511km (317.5miles) in a series of events, across a 2 year period, to raise money for Bloodwise.

It is important to note at this point that I DO NOT run, and to be honest I avoid exerice whenever possible! The thought of running any distance makes me very anxious so this challenge is really going to be, well, challenging!!

Bloodwise is one of the forerunners in both preventative and reactive blood cancer research. Their work has been pivotal in increasing survival rates: 50 years ago blood cancer was a death sentence, now nine out of ten children survive the most common form of childhood Leukaemia, and for adults the survival rate is as high as 70-80%. But it's not just about the cure, it's also about care; Bloodwise also support those suffering with blood cancers, and their families to ensure that they can live their lives to the full.

Their work makes a momentous difference to individuals and families, like ours, battling blood cancer and so this challenge seemed a fitting way to both remember my mum's daily struggle and support the continued work of the charity.

Wish me luck.... and please, donate whatever you can. Even just £1 can make such a difference!
