Story
Anyone who knows Emily will know she's really passionate about 'tidying up the rubbish' and helping the planet because it's 'poorly'. She is taking on this challenge to help raise money for World Land Trust to protect an area of rainforest and wetland from being destroyed. 10k is a long way for a 5 year old to walk and she would be so grateful for any donations. All donations made between 6th and 19th October will be doubled by the charity's donors!
More about the cause:
Imagine there was a chance to save the tropical home of hundreds of species - to save it from logging and protect it for generations to come.
That is precisely what World Land Trust (WLT) supporters can achieve together this year. Between 6 and 19 October 2021, our Big Match Fortnight (BMF) will double your donations towards our £1,200,000 appeal to save Laguna Grande, a magnificent network of forested lagoons, wetlands and mangroves of Caribbean Guatemala.
This is the home of jaguar, manatee, eagle and up to other 700+ species; a crucial stopover point for 100+ migratory birds. This is a last of its kind landscape in an area that has already lost 80% of its lowland forest and if we don't help WLT partner FUNDAECO purchase three reserves, it is likely the land would be sold for timber extraction.
This is a future for Laguna Grande we can't accept and with your help, we won't have to. Any donations you make to this main #TeamBMF page or members' individual pages between 6 and 19 October 2021 (both days included) will be doubled. Make sure to donate within this period to ensure your contributions are matched.
Our appeals name - Guardians of Nimla Ha - is inspired in the Mayan Qeqchi words for great waters, and that is precisely what we can save this year. If together we raise our £1,200,000 target, FUNDAECO will be able to expand their Laguna Grande Reserve from 1,668 to nearly 5,000 acres - a tripling that we can all make possible.
By joining forces in the year of COP26, we can save a tropical haven packed with life, a major carbon sink and flood barrier for local people. But World Land Trust and #TeamBMF cannot do it without you. Be the guardian Laguna Grande needs and donate to save the great waters of Guatemala!
