Story
Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July I'll be taking part in a 75k trek across Iceland to raise money for 'RP Fighting Blindness'. I will be completing the trek with a group of people some of whom have the condition and are partially sighted and others (including myself) who are supporters of the charity.
RP stands for Retinitis Pigmentosa and it is thought to affect roughly 1 in 3000 people. It is one of the major causes of hereditary blindness and can get passed down to the next generation. The disease will damage the retina leading to sight problems and blindness for the sufferer. It can be diagnosed at any age and can affect different people in different ways. Some will experience a loss of peripheral vision and only be able to see what they are focusing on in their central vision. Others may lose their central vision and so only be able to see peripherally. Generally the symptoms worsen in time and sufferers will eventually lose their sight.
After meeting people who suffer from the condition and hearing their stories I really want to raise as much money as I can for the charity and help them to find preventative treatment and hopefully a cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa.
I will be donating £50 a month to the charity myself. Which can be seen in the 'offline donations' tab at the bottom of the page.
