Story
Hi All!
I am going to be trekking from the top of the Outer Hebrides to the (almost) bottom in the summer of 2010 starting around the 26th July. It could take 2 weeks, it could take 4! It's a distance of around 200 miles if I go straightish...so it will probably end up being more like 250...and I'll be aiming to do about 15-20 miles a day. My aim is not to go by road as much as possible. As well as this I will be climbing the 8 highest mountains/hills on each of the 8 islands I pass through. I'll mainly be camping along the way except when I smell so bad that I have to go to a hostel to have a shower rather than swimming in the sea!
I will be raising money for the Alzheimer's Society and I aim to raise at least £1000. This is a charity extremely close to my family's heart and I would like to raise as much money as possible for the vital work and research that they do into this heartwrenching disease. I have been thinking and talking about doing this for a year now but on Boxing Day my Granny Magpie finally died after a horribly long decline. For those of us who knew and adored her, seeing her go through this was almost more than we could bear. Alzheimer's robbed her of many more years of happiness and robbed us of a dearly loved Granny and Mother. Mags loved the Hebrides and lived up there on Barra with Grandaddy for years and years. When we remember her this is where we see her, on the beach with the dog, bottom in the air, beachcombing on Seal Bay!! And so I will be walking from the Butt of Lewis to Castlebay on Barra in memory of her and to raise as much money and awareness as I can.
I will update this page as regularly as possible with how my training is going and would appreciate you passing on details to anyone who might think of sponsoring me.
Thanks to everyone - dig deep!
Love Em xxxxx
