We support young people around the world to confront the planet's most urgent crises

Story

Hello and thanks for stopping by!

I decided that 2014 would be my year to bring about change, improve and move forward :-) With this in mind I will be volunteering in Nicaragua for 10 weeks this summer. Don't worry this is not a holiday - I will be working hard and it certainly won't be luxurious!

This is part of the International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active global citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

Firstly, I'll need to have several injections (eeek) and then I'll be sharing my new home with creepy crawlies and bugs (ewww)! I’ll be working alongside local volunteers and our main projects will be natural resource management and water sanitation, which is extremely important to limit disease and set foundations for the future.

I need to raise £800 for Raleigh International who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here: www.raleighinternational.org/what-we-do/raleigh-ics

I really hope that I can make a difference and would love you to donate to give other young people the opportunity to do the same. Any contributions from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!

N.B. Just to be clear, any donations I receive will not be for myself directly (i.e. flights etc, as that is already taken care of) but will allow the ICS programme to continue and provide for future volunteers to fight poverty. See here: http://www.volunteerics.org/about-ics

Thanks so much for your support!
