Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. its very late in the day to enter so I'd be so grateful for any small donations you want to make, or just go to their website and learn more about the wonderful work they do. If you think the NHS is in crisis......
Doctors for Nepal was set up by my friend, Dr Kate Yarrow, in 2008 after she volunteered with MSF. She saw first-hand the need for more doctors who were familiar with the harsh mountain terrain, local communities and political instability.
It costs £30,000 to send one doctor through medical school and so they are mostly recruited from wealthy families and contribute to the 'brain-drain', moving abroad once qualified to earn higher salaries internationally. The aim of Doctors for Nepal is to sponsor highly able, but impoverished, rural students, through medical school. In return they must commit to working for at least 4 years post-qualification in rural Nepal. Many areas of Nepal have just 1 doctor for 100,000 population covering a vast area, DFN's work is actively contributing to improving these statistics.
I would be very grateful if you could help me fundraise for Doctors for Nepal by donating a small amount to my run, or visit their website at www.doctorsfornepal.org to find out more about the work of this fabulous organisation.
